El Progreso #14 is a multifaceted spot combining a Mexican grocery store, butcher shop, and a small restaurant tucked in the back. Located in Atlanta’s Boulevard corridor, it offers a no-frills, authentic experience that feels very much rooted in the local Latino community. The setup is casual and practical—you come here to shop for hard-to-find Mexican ingredients or get quality cuts of meat, but many find themselves drawn by the kitchen in the rear, where classic Mexican tacos take center stage.

The atmosphere inside the grocery and meat market is utilitarian but welcoming, with shelves stocked with produce, household essentials, and an assortment of Mexican goods. It’s the kind of place locals stop by not just for groceries but for a quick, satisfying bite after work or a casual weekend meal. The dining area is modest, reflecting the focus on authenticity and flavor rather than ambiance.

What stands out is the restaurant’s taco offering—especially the asada and pastor—both prepared with a noticeable depth of seasoning that resonates with people familiar with traditional Mexican street food. The portions are generous, making it a solid spot to share a filling meal without fuss. Some patrons note the burritos and mixed protein fajitas as reliable choices when you want something a bit more substantial. The vibe during peak times feels lively but unpretentious, with a steady flow of neighbors and regulars stopping by for their favorite quick meal.

This is a practical destination for those seeking genuine, straightforward Mexican flavors in a setting where the food and products are the priority. It’s best experienced as a midday or early evening stop—perfect for picking up ingredients for home cooking or grabbing a fast, flavorful taco fix without the polish or pretense of a full-scale restaurant.

The tacos were absolutely the star of the meal, with the asada and pastor perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. Everything tasted amazing, and I would definitely recommend trying them!

I’m Mexican and these “prison tacos” surprised me. Total hole-in-the-wall, but the tacos are delicious with real flavor. A true hidden gem. I got the asada y al pastor, super buenos!!!!

It has been a few years since I have been here.. A lot of people have no idea that this place is even here.. The store has a great meat market in the back, some household items and produce.. But the big draw to this place is the restaurant in the back of the store.. We use to call it “Prison Tacos”! The food was great, just like I remembered it..

Tacos were delicious. Price was good for the tacos and the fajita with mixed proteins was good portion. Easily enough for 2 people

**Update!!** 10/10/25 Went and got a burrito and to my surprise it was still freakin amazing! I'm so glad I found this place. I feel the food isn't really for me in this area but THIS, this right here, is my jam! We were told to go here for authentic tacos. Bam! They weren't wrong. This place is amazing. The market was okay, didn't really check it out. I got the burrito, lengua(?). Oh my goodness. So good you might want to slap your mama. It reminded me of taco trucks in Cali. I can't wait to go back.

Tacos were fire. Service could be better. Stood at the ordering area for 10 minutes. Wasn't greeted or anything. Eventually a woman came from the front to take my order. Any number of butchers could have called the front and said "hey theres a customer". But nope. I really didn't get service until some other people came in. Aside from that incident I would have gave them five stars.

This place always seems to amaze me. The food is well seasoned, fresh, and hot everytime. Even when there’s a line they are fast and respectful. This is easily one of if not the best tacos around. No thrills or frills with the space iust classic good food
